How the NSW Aircon Rebate Works
What's commonly called the "NSW air conditioning rebate" runs through the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) — the same framework behind commercial lighting upgrades across the state. When an accredited provider installs an approved high-efficiency reverse cycle air conditioner, the energy savings generate certificates, and the certificate value is passed to you as an upfront discount on your invoice. The scheme rules were updated in September 2025, so quotes from before then may no longer reflect current discount levels.
- Available for both new installations and replacements — you don't need an existing unit
- Split systems and ducted reverse cycle systems both qualify if the model meets efficiency benchmarks
- Higher-efficiency models (think 5–7 star) unlock substantially bigger discounts
- Homes and small businesses are both eligible
